Update: Han Chae Young, Kwon Sang Woo, Kim Hee Sun and Andre Kim named PR spokesperson for South Korea’s National Tax Office (June 17, 2005, KBS Global).

You might not believe it, you might be unaware of it, or you might have forgotten it. But the sassy nerdy girl in Chun Hyang is also the bitchy Shirley/Shin-Ae in Endless Love 1: Autumn in My Heart.
That girl is Han Chae Young (alternate spelling: Han Chae Yeong), one of the popular actress/model and the Barbie Girl of Korea. She’s very much into modeling, appearing in various TV commercials and magazines. She’s also known for her sexy body.
She’s 5′ 7″ (172 cm) tall and weighs 103 lbs (47 kg). She likes designing clothes and collecting Barbie dolls.

She was born on September 13, 1980. She grew up in America and lived with her family there. She even had an American name, “Rachel”. She also finished high school there. After that, she went back to her country alone and attended Dongguk University. She used to visit her family frequently, but nowadays she visits them only rarely because she finds long flights too tiresome.

In 2000, she debuted through the Korean horror film The Record/One Shot And You Die (2000). Then she was also cast into Endless Love 1: Autumn in My Heart (2000) together with Song Hye Kyo (Jenny/Eun-Suh), Song Seung Hun (Johnny/Joon-Suh), Won Bin (Andrew/Tae-Suk) and Han Na Na (Yumi). She got an award, KBS Most Popular Newcomer. After that, she made some more movies and many other TV Series, the most successful one so far being Sassy Girl Chun Hyang (2005), a.k.a. “Delightful Girl Choon Hyang”. She was also involved in the joint Korean KBS - Chinese CCTV drama, Beijing My Love (2004).
Here’s her filmography:
TV Series
2005 Only You
2005 Sassy Girl Chun Hyang
2004 Bejing My Love
2002 Affection
2001 Father & Son
2000 Endless Love 1: Autumn in My Heart

This stylish, sexy and pretty gal from the movie My Sassy Girl and Windstruck is truly a force to reckon with.
She is Jun Ji Hyun (alternate spelling: Jeon Ji Hyeon), a popular Korean model and actress.

She was born Wang Ji Hyun on October 30, 1981 in Seoul, South Korea. She studied in the Department of Theater and Film at Dongguk University. She started her career as a model and she first appeared in a 1997 magazine. Later on, she appeared in comedy sitcoms, and then she made her debut movie White Valentine (1999). She started to become famous in her later film Il Mare (2000), and later on her fame culminated in the romantic comedy blockbuster My Sassy Girl (2001). In 2004 a follow-up to My Sassy Girl entitled Windstruck was released. It has a different story but with a plot strikingly similar to My Sassy Girl, it can be thought of as a sort of “My Sassy Girl Episode Zero”. (Yup, many reviewers said that Windstruck has a “prequel-like” flavor.) Recently, she’s filming Daisy (2005).

Speaking of My Sassy Girl, it’s the film where Ji Hyun played the role of a random unnamed drunken and angry girl who got rescued by a hapless male student (played by Cha Tae Hyun) after nearly falling off the edge and getting killed by an oncoming train in a subway. The guy took the responsibility of looking after her and later on falls in love. The film became Korea’s all-time highest grossing comedy film. So popular is this film that it spawned an American remake (remake rights purchased by DreamWorks) which will be released in 2006! Rachael Leigh Cook was rumored to play the leading role.
Ji Hyun seemed to be very much into commercial modeling, even today. She has made endorsements in many popular products including KFC, Giordano, Samsung, and Olympus. Nowadays, she’s conquering the world of mobile phones and iPod.
Speaking of Giordano, she and fellow actor/model Jung Woo Sung were cast into a sexy hot Giordano Summer 2004 TV ad. (But to me, it looks like Spring Break 2004! Hehe… ) In that ad, Ji Hyun was in the midst of the other wet n’ wild girls dancing and gyrating in a club. She looked like a goddess there! Unfortunately for her, Korea’s advertising media censor board, the Korea Advertising Review Board (KARB), thought the TV ad’s sassiness had gone a bit overboard and deemed it “too sexy for broadcast TV”. The TV ad got banned from Korean TV in the process. (But you can still view the ad in the Giordano Korea’s front store. There are lots of other ads in there, too. By the way, Jang Dong Gun (”Kenneth/Hyong-Chul” of All About Eve) joined the Giordano fold, too.)
(But personally, I still find the Giordano ad tolerable, and I find Ji Hyun absolutely gorgeous there. If the TV ad were to be aired here in the Philippines, I think it would pass the MTRCB (at least barely) and it would be a success. I think the ad is way more tolerable than some of our local liquor and fashion ads. The “Nakatikim ka na ba ng kinse anyos?” liquor billboard ad comes to mind. (Literally, the Tagalog sentence means “Have you tasted a fifteen-year-old before?”. Unfortunately, it unintentionally carried an unwanted second meaning. In its original Tagalog context, the word “tasted” can also mean “had sexual relations”, and the term “fifteen-year-old” can refer to either “an aged whiskey” or “a teenage girl”.))

Ji Hyun’s butt became a central issue too. Last year (2004), a survey colloquially termed “Clash of the Keisters” and “Battle of the Butts” was made to identify “Which entertainer has the sexiest rear-end?”. In that survey, Jun Ji Hyun beat local singer Lee Hyo Lee on the women’s side. Consequently, some women flocked to plastic surgeons to make their butts like Ji Hyun’s or Hyo Lee’s. Interestingly, on the men’s side, superstar Kwon Sang Woo beat singer/actor Rain. (Kwon Sang Woo is “Cholo/Song-Joo” of Stairway To Heaven, and Rain is “Justin/Young-Jae” of Full House.)
Finally, Time Asia caught sight of Ji Hyun and acknowledged that she is “a force to reckon with”. She “has earned the adoration of Asian audiences by acting tough”, and “became Asia’s favorite South Korean actress by shattering stereotypes”. (Which also reminds me of Hong Kong’s martial arts superstar and James Bond’s female rival Michelle Yeoh.) Given enough time, Ji Hyun would become “the world’s favorite girlfriend”.

Here are some other facts about Jung Ji Hyun:
Height: 5′ 7 3/4″ (172 cm)
Weight: 105 lbs (48 kg)
Bloodtype: B
Religion: Christian
Hobbies: Watching movies, listening to music

In just a matter of days, GMA 7 is going to air a two-week long Koreanovela show called Friends, featuring heartthrobs Won Bin (Andrew of Endless Love 1: Autumn in My Heart), Lee Dong Gun (Matthew of Sweet 18 and Martin of Lovers In Paris), and the Japanese schoolgirl turned Sadako from Ring 2, actress/singer/model Kyoko Fukada. (GMA 7 calls her “Fukuda Kyoko”. On the other hand, Kyoko’s name in Japanese is written “深田恭子” (FUKADA Kyoko).)
Just in case you’ve already forgotten her face in Ring 2, here are some small screencaps:
Kyoko was born on November 2, 1982 in Tokyo, Japan. She’s 163 cm (5 ft. 4 in.) tall.
She has been involved in many films and TV series since 1997, including Ring 2 (1999) where she played the role of the pretty schoolgirl Kanae Sawaguchi. She also made some albums and singles since 1999, like Universe (2001) and Flow: Kyoko Fukada Remixes (2002).
She loves swimming, watching movies, reading comics, and collecting “pingu” (a popular penguin mascot/doll).

See more of Kyoko in my gallery.
She played the role of Nicole in the Korean drama All About Eve.
She is Chae Rim (alternate spelling: Chae Lim; pronounciation: CHEH RIM).
She is 168 cm (5′ 6″) tall and weighs 48 kg (106 lbs). She can do ballet and can play the violin, piano, and a traditional Korean instrument. She practices Buddhism.
Park Chae Rim was born in South Korea on March 28, 1979. She was born to a family of four: her parents, she and her younger brother. She studied in Seoul Arts University.
She debuted in her acting career on 1994 at the MBC. Since then, she made various dramas such as Oh Pil-Seung and Bong Soon-Young (2004), Above The Green Fields (2003), They Are Dating Now (2002), Four Sisters (2001), and All About Eve (2000). She was also cast in the Taiwanese drama Romance at the Aegean Sea (2003), co-starring Alec Su and Peter Ho. All About Eve started the Korean drama craze in Japan when it was aired on primetime local TV (in around 2002 or 2003). She also received the following awards:
1996 - Baek-Sang Arts Award: TV Drama New Actor Award
1998 - MBC-TV New Actor Award
1999 - MBC-TV Popular Actor Award, Best Couple Award
1999 - Baeksang Art Awards: New Actor Award
2000 - SBS-TV Popular Actor Award
She met singer Lee Seung Hwan in 1999. He’s 12 years older than she. Then on May 24, 2003 they got married.
You can view her pictures here.
To all fans of Kenneth of All About Eve, this article is for you!
We all know the handsome gentleman in All About Eve named Kenneth, who’s in love with Nicole (played by Chae Rim), who in turn is the mortal enemy of Erica (played by the hottie actress/model Kim So Yun), who in turn dumped Warren (played by Han Jae Suk).
He’s Jang Dong Gun, one of Korea’s talented matinee idols. He was born on March 7, 1972 in Seoul. He studied in Han-Gook School of Arts, majoring in Drama. But due to his busy schedule in his acting career, he quitted school in his third year. He started his acting career in 1992.
Since then, he has starred in many movies and TV dramas. His latest movie is The Promise (2005). (I think it’s also shown here in the Philippines? Parang nakita ko na ito eh. I’ll verify…) His TV dramas include All About Eve (2000) and Myth of A Hero (1997). He received many awards in acting, such as:
1994 - Baek-Sang Arts Award: TV Drama New Actor Award
1997 - Baek-Sang Arts Award: Popularity Award
1997 - MBC-TV Best Actor Award
1997 - Chung-Ryong Movie Festival: New Actor Award with Pae-Ja-Bu-Hwal-Jun
1999 - Chung-Ryong Movie Festival: Supporting Actor Award with In-Jung-Sa-Jung-Bol-Gut-Up-Da (”Take Nothing into Consideration”).
His hobby is singing. In fact, he sang in Episode 14 of All About Eve, entitled I Will Give You All. (But unfortunately, it was not included in the show’s OST.) He also plays basketball and ice hockey.
More pictures in my gallery. I’ll add more of his pictures soon!

Yup, nakapunta na si Song Hye Kyo dito sa Pilipinas. (Song Hye Kyo is Jenny of Endless Love 1: Autumn in My Heart and Jessie of Full House).
Nagpunta siya sa isang beach dito sa Pilipinas (Boracay? Palawan?) one year before Endless Love 1 was shown for the first time here.
Heto ang mga pictures niya while she was in the Philippines. Try nyong hanapin siya sa pics. Good luck!
Update: Song Hye Kyo, together with the rest of the Korean people in the pics, are casts of the Korean series All In. In the second pic, Lee Byung Hun, Song Hye Kyo’s former boyfriend, is the one in blue polo and white shorts. Park Sol Mi is the girl in red shirt and white shorts. Thanks for the info, Gina!
Update: It’s very likely that Song Hye Kyo and company went to Pearl Farm Beach Resort in Samal Island near Davao City. (Thanks to Krissy for correcting me.

By the way, she’s Australia’s Miss Universe 2004, Jennifer Hawkins.
Here’s Jennifer Hawkins back in the old days when she was a legal secretary:
Here’s Jennifer as Miss Universe now:
Enjoy!
In the Korean drama show Stairway To Heaven, whenever you see Cholo sadly recalling his moments with Jodi during their childhood, you always hear this sad emotional piano tune sung by a beautiful, soulful male voice. It’s title is Bogoshipda (or Bo Go Ship Da / Bogo Shipda), sung by Kim Bum Soo (pronounced KIM BUM SOO, where BUM rhymes with “sum” and SOO rhymes with “too”).
Kim Bum Soo was born on January 26, 1979. He studied in Soongsil University. Like most male Koreans, he also joined the army in compliance with Korea’s two-year army service rule.
His first album is entitled A Promise (1999). Last year, he also released an album called The 4th Episode (2004).
One of his favorite singers is Brian McKnight. He also listens to R. Kelly’s I Can’t Sleep.
You can reach his website at http://www.kimbumsoo.co.kr/profile.htm (Korean site; requires Macromedia Flash/Shockwave).
Watch Kim Bum Soo sing the song live in this video. Kwon Sang Woo (”Cholo”) is also in the audience.
The making of the song with Kim Bum Soo is in this other video.
Enjoy!

Hello guys and gals! Meet Cholo of Stairway To Heaven, Kwon Sang Woo. Have fun!
See more of him in my gallery.
Kwon Sang Woo is one of the most popular actors and matinee idols in Korea, in the ranks of great actors like Bae Yong Joon (Joseph of Endless Love 2: Winter Sonata). He is a close friend of Song Seung Hun (Johnny of Endless Love 1: Autumn in My Heart), who has recently joined the army. He has made Korean movies like Love So Divine (2004), Once Upon A Time In High School (2004) and My Tutor Friend (2003). He also has his latest drama series called Sad Sonata (late 2004). And as we all know, he starred with Choi Ji Woo in Stairway To Heaven (2003).
He was born on August 5, 1976. He had his education in Chung Nam High and in the Art Education Department of Han Nam University. Before he even had his acting career, he joined first the army in compliance with Korea’s compulsory rule that males must join the army service for two years.
Here are more pictures of Kim Tae Hee, the actress who played Eunice in the Korean drama show Stairway To Heaven.
She’s the one who played the role of Eunice in GMA-7’s Koreanovela show Stairway To Heaven. Although I don’t like Eunice, I like Kim Tae Hee very much!
Did you know that Kim Tae Hee is Lee Wan’s elder sister in real life? Lee Wan is the guy who played the role of young Tristan. See this article in the donga.com site.

I like her very much!
Every time you see the GMA-7 Korean drama Stairway To Heaven resuming its show after the commercial break, you always hear that familiar voice singing “Langit ka…”.

“Teka, di ba si Nina yun?”
Nope!
“Pero kahawig siya ni Nina, di ba?”
Yup.
“Ah! Siya rin yung kumanta ng Tagalog opening theme song ng Endless Love 2: Winter Sonata, di ba?!”
Yup.
“Yung Di Ko Na Kaya ang title, di ba?”
Yup.
“Eh di si Carmela Cuneta!!”
Ummm…Yup and nope.
You see, Carmela Cuneta is now known as Faith. She also had her self-titled album. And the “Langit ka…” song that’s used in Stairway To Heaven is entitled Pag-ibig Ko’y Pansinin.
Did you know that Carmela once competed with Kyla (a.k.a. Melanie Calumpad) in the 1997 Metropop Star Search? Carmela won first runner-up, while Kyla won second. See this GlobalPinoy article.
Since early January this year, nakikita nyo na ang girl na ito na palakad-lakad sa sidewalk na namimigay ng Coke sa mga nakakasalubong niya. Parang hindi siya nauubusan ng Coke no? Wala naman siyang dalang bag!
(Some visitors’ comments: May dala siyang bag! Kita pa nga yung strap running on her shoulders eh! My oversight.
)

Her name is Nikka “Nikki” Gil, the latest Coke endorser. Ganda ng boses niya, di ba? Type ko rin yung song niya:
Lalagyan ko ng guitar chords ang song na ito! Stay tuned!

See also the San Miguel Corporation site.
Si Nikka rin yata yung nasa Cream Silk “The Bus” commercial featuring Boy Abunda.
