I’ve just finished putting chords on another STH theme song, Bogoshipda, the sad song sung by Kim Bum Soo that is played whenever Cholo sadly recalls their childhood moments with Jodi.
And after that, I had to translate them to guitar chords again.
By the way, this song is less complicated than the Tagalog opening theme song Pag-ibig Ko’y Pansinin. But still, there are a couple of “broken” chords in this song: the F/A chord and the G7/B chord.
One feature of this song is the diminished 7th chord called Bbdim7 (”B flat diminished seventh”). This chord gives the song a touching, “madamdamin” feel. Try removing this chord (replace it with BbM7, “B flat major seventh”) and you’ll hear the difference in feel. Diminished 7th chords are rarely heard in mainstream music today. The only recent mainstream song I know which uses diminished 7th chords is All The Love in The World by The Corrs, right at the beginning of the chorus line “All I need is to know it’s for sure…”. Many songs of Basil Valdes also uses diminished 7th chords.
Another feature is the Bbm (”B flat minor”) chord, found in the refrain parts. It’s actually a substitute chord, replacing the BbM7 chord supposedly used in the “oolgoshipda” and “mitkoshipda” portion of the refrains. This chord substitution gives the song a sudden sorrowful feel.
As usual, I will provide chord charts for the complicated chords.
Notation:
Just in case you forgot, this is the BbM7 chord:
Here’s the diminished 7th chord:
