Kwon Sang Woo is one of the most popular actors and matinee idols in Korea, in the ranks of great actors like Bae Yong Joon (Joseph of Endless Love 2: Winter Sonata). He is a close friend of Song Seung Hun (Johnny of Endless Love 1: Autumn in My Heart), who has recently joined the army. He has made Korean movies like Love So Divine (2004), Once Upon A Time In High School (2004) and My Tutor Friend (2003). He also has his latest drama series called Sad Sonata (late 2004). And as we all know, he starred with Choi Ji Woo in Stairway To Heaven (2003).
He was born on August 5, 1976. He had his education in Chung Nam High and in the Art Education Department of Han Nam University. Before he even had his acting career, he joined first the army in compliance with Korea’s compulsory rule that males must join the army service for two years.
In my opinion, Kwon Sang Woo may not be as handsome as Won Bin (Andrew of Endless Love 1: Autumn in My Heart) or Bae Yong Joon, but he’s a very good actor. He can effortlessly shed his tears and look naturally sorrowful or pitiful, it can even move you into tears. But he can also project a cool, playful, funny, “makulit” and “pa-pogi points” kind of attitude that, combined with his very manly appearance, gives a playboyish kind of impression.
But honestly, I confess that I feel somewhat awkward to post an article and a picture gallery of Kwon Sang Woo, because I’m a guy and I’m not into male matinee stuff. But still, I do this so that you will be more aware and appreciative of him, and also for the sake of his and Stairway To Heaven’s fans. Appreciation of talent should eventually transcend gender. Di ba?
But unfortunately for Kwon Sang Woo, he’s a victim of the recent Internet falsehoods that also plagued other big-named Korean stars only this year. You know, showbiz is showbiz everywhere, with all its gossips and scandals. But this computer document dubbed “Entertainers’ X Files“, originally intended as a private report for evaluating the values of top Korean celebrities in advertising, contained some nasty rumors about them. It was accidentally leaked into the Internet, destroying reputations and causing embarrassments among the Korean celebrities. Upon reading the report, Kwon Sang Woo almost smashed his TV set in anger and even threatened to quit showbiz. He’s now one among the celebs who filed a libel suit against its alleged perpetrators.
Kwon Sang Woo is now a hot topic among the blogs and among the forums. He’s one of the centers of discussion in the Soompi.com forums and in the Tsinoy.com forum.

SANG WOO IS REALLY A GOOD ACTOR. SUCH A HANDSOME GUY. hE REALLY CAN ACT, THE CRYING SCENES IN STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN ARE SO TOUCHING .I BOUGHT ALL HIS DVD DRAMA AND MOVIES. WHEN IS SAD SONATA GOING TO BE AVAILABLE IN DVD, REALLY CAN’T WAIT TO WATCH IT. aNYONE HAS THE SYNOPSIS OF THE DRAMA ?

we are having a seminar on i.t. basic troubleshooting this afternoon, i felt bored and i tried browsing about cholo of stairway to heaven. i appreciate you featuring kwo sang woo in your blog…. i’ve been looking for info about him…. i really admire this korean actor… nakakakilig ang story nila ni jodie…but sad lang because i’ve read na the synopsis… hindi pala happy ending…anyways, ok lang.. keep up the good work.

CHOLO & JODIE ….. grabe sobrang kilig. I’ve seen this koreanobela the first time it was aired. Grabe, as in… una pa lang mai-inlove ka na. I think Sang woo is as good looking as Won Bin and is better looking than Bae Young Jun. And he is a great actor. I liked him in My tutor friend and Stairway to Heaven.

He can be so loving and yet violent for a reason. He has a tremendoes amount of energy which he is able to use and show as he sees fit to the occasion and according to his needs. When he cries, my heart aches and once i thought i would stop breathing. And the memory lingers.
He has three distinctive characteristics, one, his ability to empathize with the role like he is not acting at all and that he is that person he is depicting. Second, his playfulness, and childlikeness which he manages to show in any role. Thirdly, his emotional depth, not just intensity because he can convey deep feelings without saying a word. this combination makes him to me the most atractive Korean actor today , and the most promising. I hope he wins the best actor awar soon, and grow as an actor to mature age like Pierce Brossman, Paul Newman, and Clint Eastwood just as a manner of comparison. KSW is unique so he will mature as himself like no one else.
I hope KSW reads this tribute to him. And I wish hima happy birthday long happy life on August 5 with my affection , respect and admiration.
